The other day a non-technical friend of mine told me how his webhost shut him off because he was using too much bandwidth. I was pretty surprised because they allocate him hundreds of GB per month and his website does not get much traffic. He was dumbfounded. He loaded up his Google Analytics account and showed me that he was only getting about 50-100 unique visitors a day

Welcome to a new BIGLIST review of SEO blogs . While it’s by no means a requirement for blogs to post daily or even every week to provide useful content to readers, it does take at least 1 post every 2 weeks to be included in the BIGLIST. We’re seeing a shift with many blogs to posting less frequently and yet most of those bloggers are active on Twitter or Facebook. Is there a connection? Are Twitter and Facebook reducing the frequency of blogging overall in the Search and Social Media Marketing industry? Take a look at the new crop of blogs in this BIGLIST update and you can be the judge. The blog that gets our design recognition is Directory Journal – This nicely designed, Internet marketing, social media and SEO blog is part of a network of blogs attached to directories. The posts cover a range of SEO topics but posts are unsigned but I suspect they are written by the site owner, Hasan Saleem. SEO & Content Marketing Revue – Do I even need to introduce Heather Lloyd-Martin? Maybe not Heather, but certainly this new blogging gig she’s landed with Target Marketing Magazine where’s just started writing about, what else, content and SEO. Urban Wall – As Traffic and Lead Delivery Optimization Manager at Petersons.com, Justin Freid posts his personal insights and tips on SEO, PPC and Social Media on this very new blog. It appears Justin blogs in “collaboration” with Korean Clothing, CD Rates and Bank Rates. SEO in The Desert – Richard V. Burckhardt, aka The Web Optimist works as VP of Search for FramesDirect.com and blogs out of Palm Springs, CA mostly about search engine optimization. He also accepts guest blog posts about SEO

Over the past year or so, Facebook has made a number of moves, which bring more Twitter-like functionality to the social network. Some question why Facebook would want to become more like Twitter given that it is much more dominant in the social media space, but Facebook sees the growing-popularity of Twitter, and likely wants to make sure it offers everything users want, to keep them around for the long haul. The latest Twitter-like feature to come to Facebook is the “share” button, which is pretty much Facebook’s answer to Twitter’s “retweet.” The feature was rolled out over the weekend, and appears as a text link on posts in your news feed that stem from links (”share” is currently not an option for regular status updates, photo uploads, etc.). Just click “share” and you are presented with a pop-up window that allows you to share the link, and says “Via username” (although you can remove this): Just like that, you have passed the link on to your own friends, which may or may not include a variety of people who aren’t friends of the original poster. This in effect makes Facebook an even more valuable tool for content publishers. It will help content go viral, spreading through new audienceses. For some pros and cons of retweets, read this article . You can now apply some of these to Facebook’s share feature, because it works about the same (without the 140-character limit). How many times have you heard it said in business (or anywhere for that matter) that how you respond to a problem is more important than the problem itself? It’s said over and over again because it’s simply good advice. Well, Google had a chance to practice that principle last night when it began sending out e-mails to those with listings in the Local Business Center. Search Engine Land’s Barry Schwartz reports of the issues that occurred . Starting last night, Google began sending out the monthly (or so) Google Local Business Center updates. The updates go out via email and contain analytical information about how many times a listing was viewed, clicked on, and other miscellaneous analytics. The analytics are a summary of what they would see in their Google LBC analytics dashboard. But instead of these emails going to their actual business owners, they went to the wrong business owners. Schwartz received information for a business that was 1,500 mile from his location and he was not the only one having the experience. To Google’s credit they recognized the error and set things straight as quickly as one might expect. The following was sent to Barry so he could help the rest of us get some clarity on the issue. Of course, it doesn’t hurt your ability to get these kinds of responses when you are the News Editor of Search Engine Land. In other words, not everyone received the following explanation right away. As you’re aware, we send a monthly newsletter to our Local Business Center users, featuring product news and a glimpse at the Dashboard statistics which show the traffic Google properties drive to their listing. Shortly after sending the newsletter to a small portion of our users last night, we discovered that some emails included incorrect business listing information. We promptly stopped sending any further emails and investigated the cause, which we found to be a human error while pulling together the newsletter content. We’d like to sincerely apologize to all the business owners impacted and assure all our users that we’re working hard to ensure that nothing similar will happen again. Oh no! It appears that there may be a Googler who is, gulp, human and made a mistake. Of course it would never be one of the thousands of faithful servers around the world, it had to be one of those pesky human thingys. All kidding aside, as Schwartz points out, the data is pretty innocuous.

I have a client who needs more incoming links. His niche is fishing, and there is lots of material. We have an onsite blog, and I am encouraging him to write more and to develop an off site blog or a “lens” on Squidoo. I never see Squidoo lenses pop up in search results; I don’t hear anyone on here talking about their traffic or SEO value. I am not sure whether a lens would have any particular ‘oomph’ over a blogspot. What do you think, please?
