Twellow has made it easier to find Twitter users you are interested in following. That is what Twellow has been about from the beginning, and this simply highlights the fact that our Twellow team is always looking for ways to improve the service. There is a new feature on search results pages that shows any categories that might match your search terms. This is designed to make it easier to find profiles you are interested in, as well as let you see if there is a category that matches your interests without needing to scan the entire list of categories on the “All Categories” page. This will make Twellow easier to use and understand for a lot of people. “This is something internally we’ve been wanting for a while, and Twellow users have also been asking for it. It really helps people see the bigger picture of Twellow when searching by pointing out other possible avenues for finding people,” says Twellow Lead Developer Matthew Daines. Twellow now has over a thousand different categories available for browsing and searching. What this means for Twitterers is that they have a great resource for finding Twitterers related to topics they are interested in. This makes Twitter more useful in my opinion, when you look at it from the “microblogging” perspective - meaning you’re reading tweets for information as you would blogs. The Twellow team is always adding new categories. A good way to keep up with what has been added is to follow Twellow on Twitter , where the new categories are regularly mentioned. If there is a category you would like to see in Twellow, but it not there, you can simply contact the team , and there is a good chance they will add it. Twellow makes Twitter more useful , and I promise, I’m not just saying that because it’s a WebProNews service.

10 Great Ways To Use Twitter To Your Business’s Advantage

Twitter is the latest web-centric communications service to explode onto the scene, and businesses have moved in rapidly. However, a little discretion goes a long way, as the users of “social” sites and services have demonstrated that they will stomach only so much commercialization of what they consider their personal space. As MySpace evolved from an upstart new kid on the block where everyone let everything “hang out” to a part of the Rupert Murdoch media empire, people who’d had enough began looking for other places. This influenced the rise of Facebook. Now that Facebook has begun acting like a “regular old corporation,” too, folks are on the search again. Your company can most definitely benefit from using Twitter. The primary use for it in business is to listen, because, as every top-performing salesman knows, listening is more important than talking most of the time. You want to hear from every customer, vendor, client, industry leader, journalist, activist, colleague and competitor who has anything to say about your product, service or business. Twitter has much in common with old-style networking, like early morning meetings at diners and water-cooler chats, except it’s been “virtualized” for 21st century knowledge sharing. With that brief introduction, let’s look at 10 great ways to use Twitter to your business’s advantage. #1. Listen more, talk less: If you just think of Twitter as another way to “post” your messages and advertisements, you’re missing the whole point and your following will probably be nonexistent. Spend more time listening to what others are “tweeting” (posting) about you and you will gather valuable information. When you do post a message, make it something people want to know, not something you want them to know

Twitter Upgrades Follower/Following Relationship Maintenance

Twitter is in the process of rolling out “a major performance enhancement” to its system, which deals with how users’ following and follower relationships are maintained. Not many details were given about the enhancement, but in a post on the Twitter Status blog, the company says, “In recent weeks, following and unfollowing actions did not always take effect. As we roll out this change, these past actions will be honored, so you may see small adjustments to your followings and followers.” The enhancement comes soon after Twitter significantly increased its network capacity. Twitter actually postponed this for a day, as a result of the “growing significance of Twitter as a communication and information network,” in relation to the events in Iran. “It’s humbling to think that our two-year old company could be playing such a globally meaningful role that state officials find their way toward highlighting our significance ,” wrote Twitter Co-founder Biz Stone on the Twitter Blog. “However, it’s important to note that the State Department does not have access to our decision making process. Nevertheless, we can both agree that the open exchange of information is a positive force in the world.” Anyway, if you are looking to organize your followers and followees, you might be interested to know that our own Twellow service has made finding Twitterers of interest easier to find. Mashable also has a nice list of tools that can help you organize your “tweeps.”

You May Be Getting More Twitter Traffic Than You Realize

As you may know, the SMX Advanced event in Seattle took place recently, and interestingly enough, two of the hottest topics frequently discussed were not Google-related (not that Google was discussed frequently too). Odd for a search marketing event isn’t it? Mike McDonald of WebProNews discussed these hot topics - Bing and Twitter search with one of the biggest names in the industry - Danny Sullivan. More WebProNews Videos The two discussed Microsoft’s decision to brand its new search engine with the Bing name, and Sullivan pointed out that its launch led to a lot of people discovering things that were already there, but are now packaged in a different way. On the topic of Twitter, Danny believes it is very compelling to search marketers because people are searching in real time. He notes that it’s not only about Twitter Search itself. People often search simply by tweeting. He also goes into the tracking of Twitter traffic, and explains why you might even be getting better traffic from Twitter than you realize. It’s possible that not everything is registering in your analytics program. Watch the above clip to learn more. What are your thoughts on Bing/Twitter for searching? Talk about them here .

What Works on Twitter May Work on Your eCommerce Site

A while back, I wrote a piece on a company called IMShopping , which was using Twitter for a fresh approach to eCommerce. Essentially what the company was doing was using a Twitter account to answer questions consumers have about products they are seeking, aiming to bring a human element often lacking in the online retail world. “Just send any shopping question as an @IMshopping within Twitter (i.e. @IMshopping Where can I find an authentic Larry Bird jersey for under $100? OR @IMshopping Where can I find a LG stainless steel, bottom-freezer refrigerator for under $1000?),” a spokesperson for IMshopping explained to WebProNews. The company was utilizing Twitter in a way that now is actually pretty common. Like Danny Sullivan was recently telling Mike McDonald of WebProNews at SMX Advanced, a lot of Twitter searching is done simply through tweeting. Now IMShopping has announced it is extending its services to be actually used on retail sites

SEO Services To Offer… Social Media Naming Audit.

By Scott Goodyear Back in April of this year, I wrote an article called ” Name Squatting 2.0 “. Essentially, some will buy a domain name and hold it until it becomes popular. Once popular, they may try to sell the domain as if for ransom. In the social media world, I pondered the probability that the same thing could happen with name registrations and services like Twitter, MySpace, and others. Anne Zieger of What Matters Online , had a similar thought. Connecting the dots to how you run a marketing business, she proposes that her clients contact her in order to run a social media naming audit. This is a great idea. As an online marketer, a social media naming audit is one more service to offer if you have the bandwidth and you can explain the value proposition to your client. If you can explain the value of social media to a client, and they get it, perhaps you may also want to reserve some of the obvious names for your clients. While not everyone will be ready to take up the reins of social media, a client may be pretty appreciative if you have the foresight to reserve a few obvious names for them. It probably goes with out saying, but be sure that expectations are set and that there is a clear explanation of who holds the registrations, when the logins will transfer to the client, etc. You probably don’t want to be labeled as a scamer or name squatter yourself and you want a client to sing your praises, not complain about you online. Thus, give the registration to the client when they are ready to take the reins or if you cease business relations with the client

Social Marketing: Some Links Are Radioactive

November 6, 2008 in Uncategorized by

By Scott Goodyear When you look at the number of links pointing back to your site, it is usually good to see the total number increasing. This often means that you are doing something right. When dealing with client expectations, you may need to explain to a client that just because the number of links go up, this does not necessarily mean that all of their rankings will go up in turn. It may, in some ways, be helpful to explain to your client that links can often be radioactive in nature. They can provide a benefit today that energizes your rankings, helps it to gain traffic and conversions, to start a conversation about a product or service, and so on, but many links lose their strength to provide these actions over time. Links that might be considered “radioactive” are those that have the potential to bring a lot of popularity to your site and provide some great uplift to your rankings but only for a limited time. After some time, they might be spent or depleted of their ability to help. As one example, lets say that Google just so happened to visit Best Week Ever this morning.
